The dropped kerb associated with the crossing from the NCN756 Mavor Avenue shared footway, necessary for southbound cyclists due to the blind bend at the Gateway junction, has been removed and replaced with a regular kerb.

The dropped kerb for entering the Whitemoss Avenue underpass from Whitemoss Road has been positioned in an awkward place handier for the steps than the ramp, and is only convenient for coming from the east. There is already a dropped kerb … [more]

A newly improved connection between Whitemoss Road and the Whitemoss Roundabout underpasses. But no direction signs for the cycle route nearby. The bin probably doesn't have to be located in the actual cycle track either.

The Mossneuk cycleway changes from unsegregated to line segregated path, although it isn't signed as such, for the final section to Newlands Road. The crossing footpath has priority over the cycleway.

The Mossneuk cycleway crosses Wellesley Crescent and heads over to Newlands Road.

The Mossneuk cycle route crossing Mossneuk Road.

The Mossneuk cycle route leaves Pitcairn Place to cross to the other side of Mossneuk Road just along from the bus stop.

Still no dropped kerb on Strathtay Avenue at the start of the Mossneuk cycle route.

The cycle route into East Kilbride crosses Glenburn Way, but ends at the next junction at #31505. Since this road is one-way, a sign to diagram 810 would be appropriate here to inform those crossing.

Give way to a dismantled bus stop?

A shared footway that is narrower than the adjacent unshared footway.

NCN756 leaves the railway path and joins The Gateway and Mavor Avenue.

A connection between the cycle route from Blantyre, NCN756, and Iona Avenue, via a toucan crossing across East Mains Road. Iona Avenue leads to Kelso Drive where there is a ramped footbridge across Kingsway. Also, if the markings barely fit … [more]

The cycle route from Blantyre crosses Wilson Place to join NCN756, but no mention of NCN756 on the signs. Also, if the markings barely fit on the pavement, the shared footway is probably too narrow.

Crossing sliproads at Lee's Burn Court. Shared footways barely wide enough to paint the relevant markings on, and giving way to traffic coming from behind.. A more enlightened development would have brought the path through from … [more]

No improvement at the Kingsgate Retail Park entrance crossing on NCN756.

The Stewartfield cycle path crosses Macarthur Drive.

The Stewartfield cycle path crossing Stewartfield Road.

The cycle signage now continues right along the path to Stewartfield.

The Stewartfield cycle path meets West Mains Road. Navigate between the bus shelter and the cabinet to get to the toucan crossing.

The cycle route to Stewartfield at Strathfillan Road.

The cycle route to Stewartfield passing Kirtonholme Recreation Area.

Pavement-hopping at Brancumhall Road.

A path connecting Galloway Road to Brancumhall Road.

The route finally arrives at the Brancumhall Estate, turning right off of Morrishall Road into Galloway Road.

The route to Brancumhall turns onto Morrishall Road. There was no indication that this route (which made its way along Calderwood Road on the footway) is not on-road along this section of fairly busy and fast road.

A dropped kerb in Tannahill Drive blocked by car parking, where the cycle route to Brancumhall joins the carriageway.

The shared footway outside the Alison Lea Medical Centre. I don't know who thought that this would be an adequate design.

Give way at Capelrig Drive, with space for a waiting car.

Give way at the schools entrance.

Cross Carlyle Drive behind a waiting car.

Give way to drivers exiting the Whitemoss Recreation Area - loss of priority.

The original cycle track from the Whitemoss Roundabout joins Calderwood Road, but a new shared-use footway starts and continues to the Alison Lea Health Centre, from where there is a local cycle route extending to Brancumhall.

New cycle markings and site entrance on Churchill Avenue, complete with obstructive sign posts. Once this site is operational, it looks like cyclists will have to wait for drivers exiting the car park to move off the crossing. The 'Give … [more]

New cycle markings and site entrance on Churchill Avenue.

The last sign I encountered on the Whitehills cycle route.

Toucan crossing across Murray Road at Whitehills Terrace.

There's a 'give way' at each field access, but there's little chance you'll actually need to give way to anything. The new kerbs appear to be stuck onto the carriageway and have come adrift in some places.

The contraflow facility in King Street is provided by permitting cycling on the existing footway.

The narrow path is covered in mud washed down from the Cathkin Relief Road embankment.

Route (74) crossing Cypress Avenue. I guess the 'Cyclists Rejoin Carriageway' sign should be facing the other way.

A branch of route (74) crosses Cypress Avenue.

Cycling exempted from road closure at High Blantyre Road crossing at Russell St, and route (74) heads along the footway to the right.

South Lanarkshire Council is excelling itself here, I think.

Route (74) shared footway crossing Ballantrae Road.

The path from Ballantrae Road over towards Blantyre.

The town centre cycle route crosses Cadzow St on Campbell St.

An unsignalled crossing of this car park entrance ramp.

Another toucan crossing on the cycle route along Leechlee Road.

An unsignalled crossing of Blantyre Farm Road, next to the busy A724 mini-roundabout, for primary school children. The dropped kerb doesn't even match the width of the cycle markings.

A car parked across the dropped kerb for the route (74) crossing. The sign post isn't much better.

The solution to the Whistleberry gap was not to build a ramp to the steps next to the A725, but to sign the existing footway as a cycleway, with no widening at bus stops, just markings.

NCN74 crosses the entrance to a busy supermarket, which, being some distance from much local housing, is accessed mostly by car.

The route just ends at the traffic signals before the M74 off-ramp junction, with a Give Way into the Advance Stop Line. It's hard to see any logic as to when cycle facilities are provided here. Westbound it is to cross the off-ramp, with … [more]

Cyclists Rejoin Carriageway, at right angles!

This traffic island has a cage.

The cycleway around the roundabout at Drumsagard, where the traffic island isn't even big enough for the Give Way triangle!

The cycleway around the roundabout at Drumsagard.

Dalmarnock Bridge - the link between the road to the Cuningar Loop park and NCN75 Clyde Walkway - all fenced in with guardrail. If going on-road, the turn at #87965 does not have a dropped kerb.

An unusual route sign with the arrow at the top rather than to the side, on King Street.

A very poor section of shared footway on the corner of Quay Road and Glasgow Road.

The usual Give Way markings at every entranceway.

An off-centre bollard at the end of the path between May Gardens and May Street, but then the cycle route is routed along the footway of May Street cul-de-sac, rather than going onto the carriageway. Needless to say someone has parked a car … [more]

The crossing of Whitehill Road, right next to the A724 roundabout.

Narrow crossing of minor side street.

Barriers across the path next to the unsignalised Glasgow Road crossing. Cyclists following the signed route cross and don't actually rejoin the carriageway. The distance of 3 miles to Hamilton is only slightly less than on a sign in … [more]

Cycle lane (with wrong type of broken line) across junction mouth, and pavement hopping (see #38907) to get to toucan crossing across main road (see #38909) to avoid roundabout ahead

NCN 74 at Wilkie Road, approaching junction with Bellshill Road. The cycle route goes onto the path straight on. The "Cyclists Rejoin Carriageway" sign is facing the wrong way.

End of Mossneuk cycle route in Hairmyres on Strathtay Avenue, but with not even a dropped kerb at road junction! Path in foreground has subsided. Hairmyres Hospital is about half a mile away, behind the trees.

Cycle path crossing Mossneuk Road to access residential street on far side of road, on way to Hairmyres.

Junction of East Kilbride local cycle route 1 (to Newlandsmuir and Strathaven) and anonymous cycle route to Hairmyres. This is signed with a mix of Cycles Only, Shared Use and Recommended Route signs (see #31502), rarely in the right … [more]

End of short path from toucan crossing (see #31494). Residential road links to further section of cycle path (see #31496).

No Cycling sign before end of shared-use footway opposite junction on Uddingston to East Kilbride cycle route. (see also #31484) There are also narrow advisory cycle lanes on this section of the A724.

Give Way to the fence, you know it makes sense!
